Calling for Artists! Shiv Nadar Institute Announces Residency

Applications are currently being accepted for the highly regarded Artist/Scholar in Residence Program at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. Recognised for its dedication to research and innovative teaching methods, this program provides a unique chance for artists, scholars, and practitioners in contemporary art, photography, performance, cinema, dance, and writing to engage with a community of students and faculty within a learner-centered environment. The residency, which will take place from January to April 2024, aims to foster experimental approaches to creative arts education and offers an inspiring and challenging space for collaboration and the creation of new knowledge.

The Artist/Scholar in Residence Program welcomes applications from emerging and mid-career artists (under the age of 45) from both national and international backgrounds. The selection board, comprising artists, curators, and academics, will review all applications based on their artistic merit, relevance to the program, and potential to engage and inspire students. Preference will be given to candidates with innovative and interdisciplinary proposals that resonate with the educational ethos of Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence.

Selected residents will enjoy a range of benefits during their stay at Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence. These include:

  1. Travel and Accommodation: Residents will receive a one-time local/international air ticket (economy class) and pick-up and drop-off services from New Delhi. They will also have access to a one-bedroom suite at Eagles Nest Visitor’s Hostel on the campus, ensuring a comfortable and conducive living space.
  2. Travel and Visa Support: International candidates will receive assistance with visa processing and fee payment. Additionally, travel to Delhi-NCR will be arranged biweekly via a shared taxi to a central point in Delhi.
  3. Meals and Amenities: Residents will be provided with breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the university dining hall. They will also have access to the faculty club, which offers a range of amenities such as a gym, heated pool, pool table, indoor badminton courts, café, and reading room.
  4. Studio Access: The Artist in Residence Studio, located on the university campus, will be accessible 24 hours a day, providing a dedicated space for artistic exploration and production.
  5. University Resources: Residents will have access to the university’s state-of-the-art equipment, media labs, dance studio, and sculpture lab, enriching their artistic practice and enabling interdisciplinary collaboration.
  6. Production Grant and Honorarium: A production grant will be provided to support the realisation of the resident’s proposed project or research. Additionally, an honorarium of USD 1000 per month will be granted to residents as a token of appreciation for their valuable contribution.
  7. Exhibition and Sharing: The residency culminates in a venue for sharing the resident’s work, whether it be a finished outcome or work-in-progress. Wetlands Art Space, located within Shiv Nadar Institution of Eminence, offers a platform for showcasing the artistic journey and fostering dialogue between the resident, students, and the wider community.
