Discover the Essence of Self Kisalay Vora’s ‘So Be It’ at Tao Art Gallery

Tao Art Gallery is unveiling a solo exhibition titled ‘So Be It’ featuring the remarkable works of multi-disciplinary artist Kisalay Vora. This exhibit showcases a culmination of Vora’s introspective journey and artistic exploration, promising a charismatic experience for art enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike. The exhibit commences with a preview on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 6 pm to 8:30 pm, and extends until Wednesday, May 1, 2024 (daily from 11 am to 7 pm), inviting viewers to immerse themselves in the artist’s profound reflections and honest artistic expressions.

Through a collection of mixed-media pieces, Vora provides a glimpse into his world, a space of profound acknowledgement and peace shaped by years of self-exploration and experimentation. Over the years, he has refined his craft, transitioning from technique-driven work to a state of pure intuitive expression – an act of courage in art.

‘So Be It’ delves into themes that reflect his mature perspective, drawing from universal and fundamental concepts that have shaped his evolution as an artist. The collection comprises various mixed media works, each infused with a minimal yet powerful essence that resonates deeply with viewers. At the core of the curation, Vora has identified six series that are his most potent creations:

• Soliloquy
• The Mysterious Strength of Anthropomorphism
• Choodiyaan
• My Cortisols Are Your Endorphins
• From the Reservoir of Subliminal Occurings
• Second Chance

Despite the diversity of his artistic practice, Vora’s work is interconnected by his curiosity about the external and internal worlds. He keenly observes people’s tendencies, beliefs, and traditions, delving into the roots of these thought processes. However, while he is thoroughly engaged in these social connections and the intellectual stimulation they provide, the final resulting work is meant to be experienced in a state of ‘no-mind’, mimicking his state whilst in the process of creation.

Technically, Vora explores multiple mediums and innovates new ones to fit his storytelling vision. He bridges the gap between installation, sculpture, and painting, questioning conventional labels and reviving neglected items that surround him in his studio. He believes in a deep spirituality underlying every artistic endeavour, connecting even with the inanimate through association.

Reflecting on his artistic journey and sharing about ‘So Be It’, Kisalay says, “My works are a response to the experiences encountered during my journey to and from the studio—moments of introspection, reflection, inquiry, or documentation. Deeply influenced by the curiosity beneath the external and internal worlds, I observe people’s tendencies, beliefs, and traditions, delving into the roots of their thought processes. I use various styles, techniques, mediums, and materials to communicate my feelings to the optimum with my viewers. This practice eventually converts into multiple cohesive series giving precedence to one over another and sometimes overlapping perspectives.”

Sanjana Shah (Curator and Creative Director at Tao Art Gallery) expresses her happiness at curating Kisalay’s show ‘So Be It’ and adds, “This exhibition offers a captivating journey where the artist with simplicity has celebrated the beauty of the artistic process, brought together some universal and fundamental concepts that he has resonated with, stayed with him through his evolution. Despite the miles he has covered in his art practice, the artist is less concerned about any superficial destination to arrive at and remains satisfied with the beautiful journey.” Experience Kisalay’s journey at Tao Art Gallery from April 5 to May 1.
