India’s Journey from ‘Zero to ISRO’ on Display: PM Modi Inaugurates International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre

On a momentous occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre (IECC) at Pragati Maidan, Delhi, on Wednesday. The state-of-the-art facility, shaped like a shankha (conch), will serve as the venue for the upcoming G20 leaders’ summit in September. Designed to showcase India’s rich culture, heritage, and remarkable achievements, the IECC pays tribute to the nation’s journey from ‘Zero to ISRO’ – from ancient wisdom to the forefront of space exploration. The sprawling complex, spread over 123 acres, has been developed at a cost of approximately Rs 2,700 crore.

Celebrating India’s Strengths and Achievements

The convention centre’s walls are adorned with captivating depictions of India’s strengths, reflecting the nation’s confidence in its past while embracing the modern world. For instance, the foyer of the convention hall features sculptures showcasing various Yoga asanas, symbolizing India’s longstanding connection to this ancient practice. A significant highlight is the pre-function wall dedicated to ‘Surya Shakti,’ a tribute to India’s commitment to green energy through initiatives like the International Solar Alliance and the One Sun One World One Grid, envisioned by PM Modi.

Another striking pre-function wall commemorates India’s journey from ‘Zero to ISRO,’ honoring the country’s remarkable achievements in space exploration, from the historic launch of Aryabhatta to the Chandrayaan and Gaganyaan missions. Artistic talents from different parts of India were engaged by the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) for creating these masterpieces.

Embodying Universal Foundation and G20 Theme

The typography wall in the convention centre beautifully represents the “Pancha Mahabhuta – Universal Foundation,” signifying the five essential elements (sky, air, fire, water, and earth) that form the basis of all creations. These elements are celebrated as the soul of the convention centre’s interiors and artworks, echoing the theme of G20 – Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, meaning “The World is One Family.” The tagline of India’s presidency for the G20 summit will be displayed in multiple languages representing the participating nations.

Exquisite Art Forms from Across India

The convention centre is a treasure trove of indigenous art forms, presenting a captivating blend of tradition and modernity. The plenary hall boasts a ‘peacock’ theme, symbolizing India’s vibrant cultural heritage. Raw materials for the sculptures were sourced from different regions of India, showcasing the nation’s diverse craftsmanship. The carpets, tailor-made in Bhadohi, Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh), and Kashmir, were meticulously created by nearly 100 artisan families. Tanjore paintings from South India and Kalamkari and Madhubani paintings find a prominent place, embracing the concept of ‘Vocal for Local.’

Supporting Participants with Cutting-Edge Technology

To ensure the utmost convenience for participants, the centre is equipped with 5G-enabled fully Wi-Fi covered campus, 10G intranet connectivity, interpreter rooms equipped with state-of-the-art technology to support 16 different languages, advanced audio-visual systems, and large video walls.

With its magnificent artworks and modern amenities, the International Exhibition-cum-Convention Centre stands as a testament to India’s progress, culture, and global significance. As the nation prepares to host the G20 leaders’ summit, the IECC serves as a vibrant symbol of India’s journey from ‘Zero to ISRO,’ captivating hearts and minds with its rich heritage and remarkable achievements.
