Making Compass Drawing Easy: 5 Simple Step
Compass is a tool which has been used since civilisations have existed. From the ancient seafarers to modern astronauts, everyone has used a compass atleast once. Even though you have an in-built compass in your smartphone, we still encourage you to make a magnetic compass drawing. Given below are the steps to keep your compass drawing easy.
Let’s check them out.
Materials for Making Compass Drawing
Before you start making your compass drawing, you need to gather the following materials.
- Pencil
- Ruler
- Compass tool (for precise circles)
- Eraser
- Coloured pencils or markers (optional)
STEP 1: Draw the Outer Circle
Start your magnetic compass drawing by making a large circle. You can either freehand it or use a compass. This circle will be the outer boundary of your magnetic compass drawing.
STEP 2: Draw the Inner Circle
Next, draw a smaller circle inside the first one. This should be concentric This inner circle is the place where the compass needle rests.
STEP 3: Add the Compass Points
A compass drawing is futile without its directional points. To make your compass look more accurate, you’ll need to mark the cardinal directions (North, East, South, and West). Use your ruler to draw two perpendicular lines through the centre of the circles you just made. The vertical line represents North-South, whereas the horizontal represents East-West.
STEP 4: Add the Compass Needle
Now, it’s time to add the compass needle, the magnum opus of your magnetic compass drawing. The needle points to the North and South directions, and it should be drawn carefully to maintain balance. Draw it as a straight line through the compass centre, following the vertical axis. At the top make a small triangle.
STEP 5: Add the Compass Rose
As decoration, add a compass rose around your compass. You may draw four additional lines in the spaces between the cardinal directions (NE, NW, SE, SW).
While there is nothing that beats a black-and-white compass drawing, you may colour it if you like. If you are into the ink industry, you can also suggest your clients some beautiful (or basic) compass tattoo drawings.
