Megha Singh: Weaving Perspectives of the Urban Landscape

Megha Singh is a practising artist based in Noida, known for her captivating artworks that depict the dynamic nature of urban spaces. With a keen eye for detail and a unique perspective, Megha’s art captures the essence of the bustling cityscape, influenced by her daily travels and observations.

Megha completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from the College of Visual Art in Kolkata, West Bengal in 2016. She further pursued her Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya in Khairagarh, Chhattisgarh, specialising in painting. Currently residing in Noida, she dedicates herself to her art practice, drawing inspiration from her daily commute, which involves traversing the city and absorbing the sights and sensations that unfold before her.

In her artistic journey, Megha finds a profound connection with the city through her travels, particularly on metro trains. The view from the train windows evokes unique sensations and experiences, which she then translates onto paper through her drawings. Multiple types of lines form the foundation of her work, allowing her to fabricate her observations and emotions into intricate compositions.

In her paintings and drawings, Megha showcases the city as a fragmented entity, emphasising the division of spaces within urban landscapes. Her artwork reflects the hustle and bustle of the city, weaving together various elements that define its character. She captures the zigzag patterns, narrow and wide paths, dominating flyovers, streetlights, towering buildings, and the interplay of shadows and designs. These aspects fascinate her and inspire her creative process. Megha’s artwork is known for  her ability to notice multiple perspectives in her surroundings, particularly the intricate network of electric wires that spread across the city, evoking a sense of weaving both on land and in the sky.

Through her artwork, Megha portrays the city’s distinct character and its ever-evolving construction and development. She explores the concept of division within the urban landscape, using long flyovers to break up areas filled with buildings. Employing a variety of vibrant colours, she depicts the dazzling lights and glimpses of the city, creating an immersive visual experience. Megha skillfuly employs various types of lines to capture the energy and chaos of urban life. Thin sharp lines convey a sense of speed and movement, while thick lines provide structure and depth. Smooth lines represent calmness, while rough lines depict the force and intensity of the city’s rhythm.

Megha Singh’s artwork showcases her unique perspective on the urban landscape, capturing the intricacies and vibrancy of the cityscape. Her ability to translate her observations and emotions into visually stunning compositions makes her a talented artist to watch. Through her art, she weaves together the diverse elements of the city, creating captivating narratives that invite viewers to explore and contemplate the ever-changing urban environment.
