Gallerie Nvya is set to host a captivating art exhibition titled “Cut from The Same Cloth,” showcasing the profound works of contemporary artist Seema Kohli. The exhibition, supported by the esteemed Raj Art Initiative, will take place at Bikaner House, Center of Contemporary Art, from July 28th to August 4th.
Seema Kohli, a celebrated artist, embarks on a universal odyssey through her art, delving into the essence of self and its connection with the spiritual cosmos. Drawing inspiration from the verses of revered saints such as Kabir, Nanak, Namdev, Baba Farid, Bulleh Shah, and Shah Hussain – who were themselves weavers – Kohli explores the interwoven nature of body and soul. The exhibition will feature an awe-inspiring installation, including 15 meticulously crafted artworks on raw untreated canvas, adorned with silk and cotton threads, beads, and sequins. Additionally, three paintings in acrylics with gold and silver leaf, as well as two unique works combining painting and embroidery on gold tissue from Banaras, will grace the event.
A highlight of the exhibition will be the incorporation of a weaving loom and a charkha from Panipat weavers, symbolising the ceaseless cosmic creation in which all beings are interconnected.
Moreover, a collection of 18 drawings, rendered with gold leaf and inks on archival paper, will illustrate the instruments and materials utilized in the creation of Kohli’s enchanting artworks.
The grand finale of the exhibition will be an enthralling multidimensional performance, set to take place on August 3rd, at the Bikaner House Amphitheatre. This captivating performance will blend animation, music, poetry, and movement, all inspired by Seema Kohli’s evocative artwork and her poetic expressions.
