MANISH PUSHKALE IN CONVERSATION WITH ABIR | FIRST TAKE 2024 JURY | ABIR INDIA

Manish Pushkale (b. 1973) is a self-taught abstract artist who developed his artistic style in the intellectually rich environment of Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal, which deeply influenced his work with its Indian values and artistic mission. His contemplative canvases explore the spiritual essence of civilization through themes of genesis, progress, and change, reflecting his interests in archaeology and geology, the latter of which he studied during his Master’s in Bhopal. Over the past 25 years, Pushkale’s works have been widely exhibited both in India and internationally, including notable group shows such as Multitudes & Assemblages at Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti, Turin (2021), and solo exhibitions like Carte Blanche: To Whom the Bird Should Speak? at Musée Guimet, Paris (2023-24). He has received several awards and residencies, including a fellowship at the Nantes Institute of Advanced Study in 2014 and the Grand Award at the Bharat Bhavan Biennale in 2018. Pushkale currently lives and works in New Delhi.
