10-year-old artist sells out gallery at prestigious art fair, sells work to Sofia Vergara
Miami Art Week draws in celebrities, collectors and the most talented artists from around the world — including 10-year-old Andres Valencia. The child artist\’s gallery sold out at Art Miami, his first show. The San Diego-based painter simply saw a film about American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and told his parents, \”I can do that.\” Actress Sophia Vergara bought one of his pieces this week and Channing Tatum, Jordan Belfort, and artist Shepard Fairey stopped by his booth at the Art Miami fair to check out his work, according to a spokesperson for Chase Contemporary. The art museum between North and South Korea — where the curator wears a bulletproof vest
The Unimaru museum rests on the DMZ, or Korean Demilitarized Zone, a no-man\’s-land along the 38th parallel which divides North and South Korea. Its inaugural exhibition, titled \”2021 DMZ Art and Peace Platform,\” featured 34 artworks by 32 artists and opened in September 2021. Prior to becoming a museum, Unimaru was a customs clearinghouse, where visitors went through security screening before being allowed to visit the DMZ from 2003 to 2007. Due to both security and coronavirus concerns, visitor numbers are intentionally kept small. One of the most striking installations is an empty frame that represents where the museum hopes to someday display work from North Korean artists. CNN brings you all the details.
