New Christie’s President for the American Region

Christie’s Global Head of Operations, Julien Pradels has got a promotion now. A “proud” Pradels is the new Christie’s President for the American Regional Team, as mentioned by a report released on March 14. He will succeed Bonnie Brennan in spring, under whose leadership the American market accounted for 48% of its auction sales. Brennan transitioned to the position of Christie’s CEO in February.

Brennan on Julien Pradels

Brennan noted that Pradels is the “ideal fit” as Christie’s President for the American region. It is due to his “extensive knowledge” of the company, and its clientele, and his collaborative and resourceful nature. She notes, “I know Julien well, and he is a person who always maintains the utmost respect for our clients, his colleagues and the business while continuing to push our business forward.”

Over his tenure of 14 years with Christie’s, Pradels has occupied various leadership roles and has acquired expertise in regional strategies, client development, and business management.

Why Is Pradels the Right Fit?

The new America Christie’s President, Pradels played a key role in modernizing operations, which facilitated Christie’s inaugural auction in Shanghai in September 2013. In his new role, Pradels will oversee Christie’s operations in both North and South America, managing the firm’s sales calendar, client relations, and growth initiatives. Additionally, he will supervise the upcoming renovation of the company’s New York headquarters at the Rockefeller Center.

It will be interesting to see how the new Christie’s President will perform, especially during a time when the market for auction houses remains challenging. Last year, Christie’s sales reportedly decreased by 6%. In a statement, Julien Pradels said, “It is an honour to lead a dedicated team of experts that has been an inspiration to all of Christie’s and the art world for so long. I look forward to continuing my work innovating, collaborating and bringing colleagues together, as I know that is the best way for us to stay strong, grow and make positive change.”
