The India Habitat Centre has recently launched an exquisite new exhibition, “Celestial Symphony.” This captivating showcase delves into the realms of human emotions and mythology artfully expressed through abstract depictions. Dr PS Sethi portrays the ever-expanding universe and the cosmos. His style and brush strokes are interesting, as he layers colours and motifs in his works. His approach is to make people realize their connection to the universe which is often neglected. The meticulous use of lines and hues imparts depth to his works. The subtle and serene colour palette ultimately contributes to the symphony that the work evokes.
Explore the depths of the spiritual and mystical with Celestial Symphony, where art acts as a captivating bridge between the realms of the familiar and the enigmatic. A mesmerizing realm of wonder and self-reflection emerges through the masterful application of bold brushstrokes and a captivating array of colours. This realm transcends the boundaries of the physical world, awakening the innermost recesses of the soul and sparking the intellectual capabilities of the mind. Within the mesmerizing abstracts that mirror the vastness of the ancient wisdom of the cosmos, the ethereal meets the earthly in this curated collection.
As this pale blue dot that we call home traverses the vast ocean of the cosmos, thoughts like micro-pixels swim, skim, and swarm in our minds. Each carries emotional energy, which when crystallized into a tangible expression forms the language of art. The artist, Dr PS Sethi, is a practising family physician with a deep passion for abstract expressionism. “Different thoughts, moods, vibes, and visions coalesce in the deep recesses of my psyche. In my perspective, this internal turbulence seems to be orchestrated by none other than The Master conductor. While I paint, my creativity flows effortlessly, transcending conscious thought. It is as if my hand becomes a vessel for The Master’s essence, manifesting wondrous beauty through delicate strokes that weave enchantment into my art.”
The artist describes how the creative process begins. “It all begins with a tranquil mind, a state of meditation that allows me to find my centre. From there, the artistic flow takes over effortlessly. It jumps from the consciousness to the consciousness of the canvas. The receiving canvas receives whatever message is there from the celestial symphony and it is almost like, I am just a neutral condone in the whole process and it’s all meditative and that’s how I make a painting. The colours are aesthetically chosen because I have a sense of colours. Because, as a student of NGMA way back in 1994, I was lucky enough to be a part of the art appreciation course. They made me passionate about the world of art. Drawing on my extensive experience as a doctor, my deep understanding of mythology, and my background, I transform these influences into powerful, symbolic, and abstract messages that form the very essence of my artistic genre. Since I was a child, my grandmother would recount captivating tales of gurus to me. I would eagerly delve into the enchanting world of the Puranas and immerse myself in the wisdom of the renowned book, Panchatantra. These heartfelt experiences have deeply influenced me since my early years. I attach the importance of abstraction to Puranas, Puranas were the first abstraction. Without having an abstraction of mythology and adding a story to it you can never explain the spiritual aspects to the last person who is a layman. That’s a true abstraction, and I am continuing that.”
Art is the magical fusion of the celestial and the unbounded connection between the viewer’s gaze and the artist’s passionate soul. The suspended surreal communion makes everything in the outside world fade away. Experience communion with pieces that evoke introspection and connection with the divine. Allow the delicate intricacies of every creation to murmur ancestral secrets and eternal truths, as the artists’ visions entwine with the invisible forces that mould our world.
