A Grand Showcase of Artistic Diversity
Bengaluru is set to host the 21st edition of Chitra Santhe, an annual art fair organized by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath (KCP). The event, scheduled for January 7, promises to be a vibrant display of creativity, with over 1,500 artists from 22 states participating. The fair serves as a melting pot for artists, bringing together professionals, hobbyists, traditional painters, art students, and institutions.
A Tribute to Indian Scientific Achievements
This year’s Chitra Santhe takes on a unique theme, dedicating its celebration to the achievements of Indian scientists in space research and related activities. The fusion of art and science promises to offer a captivating and thought-provoking experience for visitors.
Inauguration by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah
The grand inauguration of the art fair is scheduled to be conducted by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on January 7. This prestigious event reflects the government’s recognition of the cultural significance of Chitra Santhe and its commitment to promoting the arts.
Unprecedented Participation and Inclusivity
The enthusiasm for Chitra Santhe is evident in the overwhelming response from artists across the country. The organizers received a staggering 2,726 applications, highlighting the diverse range of participants. Notably, 7.6% of applications came from specially-abled artists, and 6% from senior citizens, emphasizing the fair’s commitment to inclusivity.
B. L. Shankar, president of KCP, proudly stated, “We have not rejected the application of any specially-abled artist and senior citizen artists,” showcasing the event’s dedication to providing a platform for artists of all backgrounds.
Expanding Horizons: Additional Venues for Art Stalls
To accommodate the large number of applicants, Chitra Santhe will expand beyond the KCP campus on Kumara Krupa Road and Crescent Road. An additional 300 stalls will be set up in Seva Dal ground and the service roads under the Shivananda Circle steel flyover from Shivananda Circle to Gururaja Kalyana Mantapa. This expansion aims to create dedicated spaces for specially-abled artists and senior citizens.
Mr. Shankar shared, “We will accommodate around 150 artists in each of the additional venues. The set-up at Seva Dal ground will have dedicated facilities for senior citizens and specially-abled artists,” ensuring a comfortable and accessible environment for all participants.
Easing Visitor Experience: Transportation and Accessibility
Anticipating a massive footfall of around 5 lakh visitors, Chitra Santhe organizers have taken steps to enhance the overall experience. In response to past parking concerns, BMTC metro feeder buses will be arranged from key metro stations to facilitate easy transportation to the event. Additionally, Namma Yatri, a mobility app, will deploy 30 women-driven autorickshaws to provide last-mile connectivity for both artists and visitors.
Diverse Artworks on Display
Chitra Santhe promises a visual feast with a diverse range of artworks on display. From Mysuru and Tanjore traditional paintings to Rajasthani and Madhubani style artwork, the fair will showcase a rich tapestry of traditional, modern, and contemporary art. Visitors can expect a sensory journey through the myriad expressions of India’s artistic heritage.
