BLACK CUBE GALLERY Launches its First Physical Space in New Delhi with its Inaugural Exhibition ‘Vocabulary of Vision’
Black Cube Gallery, a fresh new voice in India’s contemporary art scene, is stepping into the physical realm with the launch of its first permanent space in Hauz Khas, New Delhi on Thursday, 27th February 2025. With a vision that challenges the exclusivity of the “white cube” model, Black Cube is set to redefine how contemporary art is experienced and engaged with. Founded by Sanya Malik, Black Cube Gallery has built a name as a dynamic, forward-thinking space that champions a bold mix of modern masters and emerging contemporary artists. With its roots in the primary market, the gallery is committed to fostering direct artist representation, ensuring its work reaches audiences in ways that are authentic, thought-provoking, and culturally resonant. The exhibition will go on till 13th March 2025
The launch of this space is more than just an expansion – it’s a statement. A declaration that contemporary Indian art is ready for a new kind of gallery, one that is accessible, unpretentious, and deeply engaged with the artistic narratives shaping our world today.
‘VOCABULARY OF VISION’ A Multi-Layered Exploration of Visual Language
To mark its physical debut, Black Cube Gallery presents “Vocabulary of Vision“, a powerful exhibition featuring a stellar lineup of 25 Indian artists, spanning modernist stalwarts to cutting-edge contemporary voices. The show delves into the infinite ways in which artists create and shape their own visual lexicons, offering a glimpse into the unique “languages” of artistic expression.
From abstraction to figuration, intimate storytelling to grand social commentary, the exhibition mirrors the layered narratives of contemporary India—its diverse cultural intersections, artistic influences, and global conversations. Borrowing from Roland Barthes’ notion of the “grain of the voice,” the show unpacks the “grain of the visual” – the textures, nuances, and distinctive styles that define each artist’s world. The exhibition brings together 9 modern masters and 16 contemporary artists, presenting a powerful cross-generational dialogue like Himmat Shah, Jogen Chowdhury, KM Adimoolam, Farhad Hussain, Meena Sansanwal and more

“Our goal with this exhibition is to dismantle the idea that art is a language only understood by a select few. ‘Vocabulary of Vision’ is an invitation—an open dialogue between artists and audiences, where each work is a sentence, a statement, or a question waiting to be explored.” – Sanya Malik, Founder, Black Cube Gallery
A snapshot of Black Cube’s curatorial philosophy, “Vocabulary of Vision” is a foundation stone for the gallery’s future programming. Upcoming exhibitions will further highlight individual artists from the roster, providing deeper insights into their practices while c continuing to foster a fresh, experimental approach to curation.

Why Black Cube is Different?
This isn’t just another contemporary gallery. Black Cube is a bold new imitative, a mindset shift, and a redefinition of what an art gallery can be.
● A gallery without invisible walls – Breaking away from the traditional “elite” versus “non-elite” barriers, Black Cube fosters accessibility, making art an experience rather than an exclusive commodity.
● Championing both modern and contemporary voices – The gallery’s roster is a carefully curated mix of established and emerging artists, creating an ecosystem where cross-generational conversations thrive
● A space that feels alive – More than a showroom for art, Black Cube is a place for interaction, dialogue, and meaningful engagement – from exhibitions to talks, performances, and collector-driven experiences.
● Deep artist representation – Committed to the primary market, Black Cube nurtures long-term artist relationships, ensuring sustained support for their careers.
For us, art isn’t a product – it’s a process. Our role isn’t just to exhibit artists, but to walk alongside them, amplifying their voices at every stage. – Saniya Malik
ABOUT BLACK CUBE
