Cherishing Memories of Childhood in Beyond the Blue

Experience the immersive depths of your memories at the newly opened exhibition at Triveni Kala Sangam, organized by Museo Camera. Delve into a profound portrayal of memory that resonates with thoughtfulness and discover a captivating ocean of reminiscence. Memories never fade away they always stay within and come out in several other ways. Being connected to Aravallis allowed Aditya Arya to dive deeper into his cerebral connection with the mountains and to feel the sentimental values they hold. Our relationship with objects or spaces becomes important as the relationship allows us to ponder about the critical connection it holds in our hearts. Aditya Arya brilliantly transforms his empathetic connection with the mountains into a unique masterpiece of creativity, utilizing his camera as a powerful instrument to capture those breathtaking moments and seamlessly portray the sheer awe and wonder he experienced during his childhood. This project offers a captivating portrayal of four natural elements found in the Aravallis, utilizing four of the oldest photographic printing processes originating from the 19th century.

When asked about Aditya’s childhood experiences in the Aravallis, he enthusiastically shared, “I was fortunate enough to spend my formative years in the magnificent Aravallis. During the vibrant decades of the 60s and 70s, my formative years in Delhi were an extraordinary voyage into a culture that overflowed with richness, authenticity, and unspoiled beauty. Aravallis are beautiful mountains, but they have been encroached on, so I documented Aravallis. So I decided to showcase Aravallis in different avatars, these are through a historical process. This body of work is inspired by the elements of the Aravallis and combines my love for the region and my passion for photography.

It is said art is derived from nature and nature has been a source of inspiration to many artists for centuries. So it is not only about seeing an image it’s about the many layers that are buried in that image. It’s about the variables and endless possibilities that add to the charm and make the analogue processes fascinating. With 37 years of experience in the field of advertising photography, I have recently had an epiphany – the digital age has made me crave the tangible essence of creating captivating images once again. I enjoy living more in the world of touch and feel, something that perhaps comes from being born ‘analogue’.”

In his works, Aditya elucidates the essence of Tattva, portraying it as an embodiment of his profound journey through the intricate dimensions of land and its myriad metaphors. These works evoke a layered dialogue with varied conceptual frameworks from defining moments in the development and evolution of photography. This collection presented here is a heartfelt tribute to this exceptional mountain range. It is the culmination of my countless exploratory visits over the past few years.

Creativity often emerges from accidents and these vintage printmaking processes have a curious unpredictability to them. Besides being hard to tame, they are based on several variables and a certain erratic beauty emerges from these imperfections. This story is a captivating journey that reveals the true essence of the Aravallis through the art of photography, embodying the purest forms of printing processes. The significance of this is closely linked to the exploration of multiple levels. On one level, it involved exploring the Aravalis through a digital lens. However, another equally significant exploration occurred within the dimly lit darkrooms, where images were interpreted and presented in a compelling manner. In the digital realm, countless images of the Aravallis reside. Yet, it is possible that this is the very first occasion where these images have been analyzed and understood through the very elements that compose them. The exhibition is on view till October 6th.
