A new museum is set to be built at the ancient Maya complex Chichén Itzá in Mexico, which is the country’s most visited archaeological site with roughly two million visitors a year. The museum is still in its early development stages. It is expected to replace a small structure that had closed over 10 years ago.  The museum will display some of the Yucatán Peninsula’s latest archaeological discoveries. Not a lot of details are known about the project yet. The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) said it had dedicated $14.4 million to building the museum and a new visitor center. The museum’s location is likely to include artifacts unearthed during excavations at or near the complex and selections from a massive trove of artifacts found during the construction of the Maya Train project, which costs $8 billion. A collection of Anne Eisenhower‘s jewelry will go under the gavel at Christie’s New York on June 7. The late interior designer, who also happened to be President Dwight Eisenhower’s granddaughter, amassed an array of spectacular pieces before her death last July. The auction house says her collection is the “stuff of Hollywood legend.” The sale, titled simply The Magnificent Jewels of Anne Eisenhower, will include 30 rare treasures. The star lot is the iconic “Jarretière” ruby and diamond bracelet by Van Cleef & Arpels. Hollywood starlet Marlene Dietrich bought the bracelet in 1937 and later wore it in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1950 murder mystery Stage Fright. The German-American actress was also seen wearing the bracelet at the 1951 Academy Awards. Eisenhower later acquired the piece from Dietrich’s estate in 1992. Experts estimate the bracelet will sell for between $2.5 million and $4.5 million. Details on Art Newspaper.

Elizabeth Peyton’s first art fair showing with gallery David Zwirner includes a portrait of Zwirner scion and head of content at the gallery, Lucas Zwirner, according to a promotional email sent by the gallery ahead of Art Basel Hong Kong. The portrait, a slightly abstract monotype made up of soft blues, aquamarines, violets, and beiges, is titled simply Lucas Zwirner (2022).  For months the 24-hour art world gossip cycle has churned out rumors that Peyton and the young Zwirner were in a romantic relationship (neither Peyton nor Zwirner publicly addressed the rumor). David Zwirner Gallery, however, did appear to confirm a report in Kenny Schachter’s “Frieze LA” dispatch that Peyton had left Gladstone Gallery, where she had shown since 2007, to join its artist roster. (Peyton is now listed on the Zwirner site.) He reminded readers that Peyton’s move was also bad news for London gallery Sadie Coles, which represented the artist across the pond. What is not speculation is that Peyton’s market is on the rise. During the Now sale at Sotheby’s last year, her 2003 painting Nick with His Eyes Shut hammered for more than twice a low estimate of $1 million, to sell for $2.5 million with fees.
