Taking place on October 9–13 in The Regent’s Park, Frieze London presents cutting-edge contemporary art from over 290 galleries from 43 countries. New to this year’s fair is a revamped layout, courtesy of A Studio Between, that will provide greater visibility to its selection of world-class galleries and special curated sections such as the popular “Studio” and “Spotlight” sections. Sheena Wagstaff has curated The “Studio,” from which contemporary artists Nathalie Du Pasquier and Doris Salcedo connect their own practices to historical precedents. Spotlight: Valerie Cassel Oliver leads this sector, which includes solo exhibitions from underrepresented 20th-century artists, such as Judy Chicago and Kulim Kim.
Running concurrently, Frieze Masters exhibits 130 galleries specializing in “historical and modern art”; that show combines ancient artifacts with contemporary works. The festival is built around the idea of conversation between historical and contemporary art, with curated exhibitions as well as first-time participants, including Afridi Gallery and Tilton Gallery.
