Jaya Jaitly and Dimple Bahl Launch Exquisite Book on India’s Graphic Heritage at NIFT Delhi’s Spectacular Pre-Launch

A pre-launch event at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in Delhi gave professionals and design enthusiasts an early look at a ground-breaking book that revealed the intricate details of India’s rich history in design.

Titled “Inspirations For Graphic Design For India,” the book,  officially launched, preceded by a lecture into the intricate world of Indian crafts and design, going beyond mere aesthetics to explore the deep cultural and historical roots that define the nation’s artistic tradition. The event provided a glimpse into the broader context and inspiration the publication aims to offer to design professionals and artists worldwide, inviting them to understand the ancient values and significance embedded in India’s design elements.

At the heart of this enlightening exploration are the distinguished authors, Jaya Jaitly and Dimple Bahl.

Jaya Jaitly, a luminary in the traditional arts and crafts of India, is a prolific writer, social and political activist. Her extensive experience, spanning back to 1965, has been dedicated to sustaining traditional livelihoods and preserving India’s rich crafts heritage. As the founder of the Dastkari Haat Samiti and the visionary behind the iconic Dilli Haat, Jaitly has played a pivotal role in shaping the discourse around crafts, culture, and livelihoods.

Dimple Bahl, a practicing graphic designer with a keen focus on visual brand strategy and publication design, is also an associate professor at NIFT Delhi. Bahl’s expertise lies in bridging the realms of traditional Indian folk media and contemporary graphic design, making her a vital contributor to the discourse on preserving and evolving India’s design narrative.

The book, co-authored by Jaitly and Bahl, seeks to narrow the gap between the historical context of Indian crafts and the modern concepts of graphic design. By relocating and aligning the history of design within the domain of Indian crafts, the publication promises to offer a unique perspective that will resonate with design professionals and artists globally.

As anticipation builds for the official launch of “Inspirations For Graphic Design For India” the pre-launch event at NIFT Delhi serves as a tantalising preview of the rich insights and revelations awaiting readers. Stay tuned for an immersive journey into India’s design heritage as the book is poised to hit shelves soon.
