Mesmerizing Illusion of Multiple Dimensions in Dhanashri’s Work

The Dhoomimal Gallery has just launched a captivating exhibition entitled “Can You See a Taste?” Curated by Rahul Kumar, the exhibition focuses on the possibility of tasting or hearing a picture. Dhanashri has masterfully crafted these pieces, inviting you to explore them with boundless creativity and approach their different mediums from a comprehensive perspective. The creation of these artworks is reminiscent of action painting, where the significance remains with the process rather than the ultimate result. She fully immersed herself in each piece, making it a captivating endeavour. Using her hands, feet, clothes, threads, and every other resource, she skillfully crafts vibrant images that often take on a stunning three-dimensional quality. What truly stands out is the unique way she applies colours onto the canvas, where each hue takes on a life of its own, forming intriguing shapes and evoking a sensory experience that can be both visually and even tangibly perceived. Each gesture and movement leaves bold marks that she chooses to keep. The direct interaction with the canvas, with minimal intermediaries like brushes, appeals to her sensibilities in achieving the desired results. Dhanshri’s approach pursues pure creativity, imparting life to matter.

The resulting images are produced based on her thoughts, the objects she utilizes, and how she constructs them. The artwork’s ability to display and interpret each movement and gesture creates an intriguing experience for individuals to engage with and comprehend the art. The outcome reveals the progress, even though the application process remains unseen. The painting has deliberate strokes that allow viewers to observe the artistic process and appreciate the multiple layers of paint. Her primary objective is to create a space where individuals can unrestrictedly comprehend and interpret concepts. Dhanashri revealed that she does not pre-plan her artwork before beginning the creative process. “I simply begin. As I went through the process, I began to develop a strong connection with my paintings, feeling a natural affinity towards them. I made these artworks using my hands, feet, and clothes. Life keeps changing and because of that, my work also kept changing. I picked my colours without much thought, actually, the tools I used worked well together. I used whatever I had. I had different things like thread, powder, cloth, and paint to use in my artwork.”

Dhanashri prefers to exclude objects that have a specific look and are intangible. To back up her assertions, she draws on her personal experiences. She finds both the process and the result equally interesting. She feels uncertain about what will occur when she begins a new task, adding to the excitement. Observing the finished masterpiece allows us to comprehend the process essential to reach its present state and enhance our admiration for her craftsmanship. Her artworks have a sculptural quality, deviating from the typical concept of being painted. It was not a decision made consciously, but instead, it evolved naturally with time. Dhanashri’s remarkable experience has led to exceptional personal development and a deeper comprehension of the intricacies of life. Materialism is a subject that she has also excelled in.

Beyond merely imparting texture, the layers’ weight, the rephrased deep cuts, the relief of the artworks, and the bold slashes serve additional purposes. She conveys her emotions and actions through her artwork. An interesting aspect is that these thoughts do not necessarily need to be well-considered, profound, or deep. Unexpected and personal experiences can serve as sources of inspiration. Memories and emotions, as well as various forms and hues, are eagerly absorbed by our minds, resembling sponges. While painting, she incorporates all of these objects, blending diverse shades and feelings on the canvas. She desires for the intense emotions from these encounters to remain unmissable. Her artwork possesses a profound link with her daily experiences. Her artwork serves as a manifestation of her emotions – profoundly influencing her thoughts and daily experiences. They are multi-layered. Her personality is akin to a multifaceted gem, with varying aspects revealed concurrently. Dhanashri’s artworks elucidate her traditional roles and involvement in society.
