Nature Morte presents an exhibition of new works by the Delhi-based artist Aditya Pande from 14th August to 8th September. Nature Morte has represented him since 2007, and he presented solo shows of his works in New Delhi in 2011, 2017, 2019, and 2022. He also collaborated with the Alexia Goethe Gallery in London for his solo show there in 2009.
In Blind Spot, Aditya Pande presents a stunning array of new works showcasing his multi-disciplinary practice. The artworks exist on several simultaneous yet oppositional planes. They combine the playful, the grotesque, the animalistic and the formal. The works are packed with freewheeling layers of meanings and associations that take the viewer on an exhilarating journey through colour, form and texture. Pande’s imagery is both alluring and cryptic. They are akin to cosmological diagrams – a space of primordial ooze. The constellations of Pande’s cosmology result from spills, stains and tangles and employ a language devised of stutters, hiccups and tics. The beings of Pande’s cosmos mimic aliens, insects and phantasms. We may recognize ourselves in Pande’s characters — fabrications of our imaginations, deluded by our sensations, both welcoming and aloof.
Pande’s process is rooted in drawing and the extension of line and form through various media. The artist’s technique involves constructing complex vector images digitally, then printing and adding layers of paint, hand-applied marks and attached objects and materials. The results are hybrids which combine drawing, painting, and collage. His stylistic oeuvre involves the integration of subject and object until one enfolds the other, and both are lost in a kaleidoscope of chaotic multiplicity. They present an untethered view, floating between prehistoric cave paintings and speculative fantasies.
Aditya Pande (born 1976) received a degree in Graphic Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, in 2001. Pande’s solo exhibitions have been presented at galleries including Nature Morte, New Delhi; Aicon Gallery, New York; Chatterjee & Lal, Mumbai; and Alexia Goethe Gallery, London. His work has also been exhibited in group shows at venues including the Kunstmuseum Artemons, Hellmonsodt, Austria; Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi; Otto Zoo Gallery, Milan, Italy; Centro Cultural Banco do, Brazil; and Bose Pacia, New York, among many others.
Pande’s process involves both the manipulation of computer-aided technologies and also more traditional media. As such, an individual may draw on diverse media such as vector drawing, digital photography, ink, tinsel, and acrylic paint. The dense layering of the picture plane marks the artist’s process; this often extends right onto the artwork’s acrylic covering. This exhibition will occur in Nature Morte’s Delhi gallery space at the Dhan Mill compound, 100 Feet Rd, Chhatarpur Hills, New Delhi. The hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 11 am to 7 pm, and the gallery is closed on Mondays.
