NGMA Celebrates 71st Foundation Day with Splendour 

In a celebration honouring decades of artistic heritage and cultural preservation, the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) commemorated its 71st Foundation Day yesterday, 1 April 2025 with a spectacular fusion of art, music, and culture at the event ‘Raag Ve Rekhankan’.

The daylong festivities began with an inaugural ceremony attended by distinguished guests including Dr Jai Madaan, who served as Guest of Honor, the legendary Artist Jatin Das, renowned Art Historian Sushma K Bahl, and Dr. Sanjeev Kishor Goutam, Director General of NGMA.

Dr.Sanjeev Kishore Goutam delivered a profound message on the occasion, “NGMA’s Foundation Day is not just a celebration of an institution—it is a tribute to decades of artistic excellence and cultural evolution. From its roots in 1954 to its standing today, NGMA continues to honour India’s rich modern and contemporary art heritage, inspiring creativity and dialogue across generations.”

The highlight of the evening was the grand opening of the exhibition ‘Celluloid Sojourn’, which drew art enthusiasts from across the nation. The exhibition featured carefully curated works that showcased the intricate relationship between visual arts and cinematic expression.

Visitors were treated to a multisensory experience with live sketching demonstrations that captivated the audience, offering a glimpse into the creative process of visual artists. The cultural celebrations reached new heights with mesmerizing performances by acclaimed musician Srimonto Mazumdar and the talented dancers from Kathak Kala Kendra, who brought traditional rhythms and movements to life on stage.

The fusion of performing and visual arts created a unique atmosphere that embodied the spirit of Indian artistic traditions while celebrating contemporary expressions. The thoughtfully crafted program allowed attendees to experience the interconnectedness of various art forms, reflecting NGMA’s commitment to a holistic approach to cultural preservation.
