The Raza Foundation, in collaboration with the India International Centre, has unveiled a captivating exhibition titled “The Gond Qalam.” This unique showcase, featuring the works of contemporary Gond artists, is currently open to the public at the Art Gallery in the Kamladevi Block, Max Mueller Marg, New Delhi, from May 4th to May 18th, 2024.
“The Gond Oalam,” also known as Jangarh Oalam, presents an impressive collection of artworks from artists hailing from the villages of Patangarh and Mandla. This exhibition marks the second such event organised by the Raza Foundation to promote and project the talents of Gond Pradhan artists, continuing the legacy of its founder, Sayed Haider Raza. Born in a forest village in the same region, Raza had a profound connection with the area and a deep trust in the young artists’ dynamic creativity and vibrant aesthetic visions.
The exhibition features the works of numerous talented Gond artists, including Anarkali Shyam, Anuj Kumar Tekam, Champi Bai Shyam, and many others, who are known for their innovative use of materials and the unique articulation of individual visions and idioms. Each artist brings their personal touch and cultural heritage to their creations, transforming traditional musical and oral memories into striking visual narratives.
The exhibition offers a unique opportunity for art lovers, critics, and the general public to experience the depth and diversity of Gond art. It also highlights the ongoing efforts of the Raza Foundation to support and promote younger generations of artists, ensuring the continuity and evolution of cultural traditions through modern expressions. This exhibition not only celebrates the artistic achievements of the Gond artists but also reinforces the cultural bridges being built through art.
Don’t miss the chance to explore this vibrant and dynamic display of Gond artistry at the heart of New Delhi until May 18, 2024.
