Renowned Artist and Former Lalithakala Akademi Chairman C.L. Porinchukutty Passes Away in Dubai

Introduction

C.L. Porinchukutty, the former chairman of Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, breathed his last in Dubai at 91. Born in 1932 to the Louis-Thandamma couple in Chiranellur, near Kechery in Thrissur district, Porinchukutty had a remarkable journey in the world of fine arts.

Career and Achievements

Porinchukutty played a pivotal role in the transformation of the School of Arts in Thiruvananthapuram into a full-fledged Fine Arts College during the mid-1970s. Serving as its maiden principal, he contributed significantly to establishing the college as the first of its kind for fine arts in Kerala.

Throughout his career, he held various key positions, including chairman of the National Art Jury, chairman of the Committee for Triennale, and a member of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. His influence extended beyond Kerala, earning him honors such as the prestigious Raja Ravi Varma Award and the National Award of All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society.

Porinchukutty’s legacy includes his dedication to the promotion and development of fine arts in Kerala. Final Moments and Funeral

Having lived in Thiruvananthapuram after relocating from his native Chiranellur, Porinchukutty had been ailing for some time. In his final years, he resided in Dubai with his son. His body is expected to be brought to Thiruvananthapuram, with the funeral scheduled at Lourdes Church, Nalanchira, on Wednesday. Porinchukutty is survived by his wife Elizabeth, son Baiju, and daughter Asha.
