Rhaen Basera

Interior Designer

Basera is the brainchild of a young theatre practitioner, Dushyant Malik; given shape by a Kathak dancer and interior designer, Mitali Dhruva.

Rhaen Basera literally means a space that provides shelter. Consciously, the raw and untreated surfaces give a character to the  spaces that reflects the idea of an ongoing rigorous process rather than leisurely polished comfort.  A low cost  project, Basera uses the most basic – available materials. The 200 seater semi covered theatre is a typical 270 degree amphi theatre with Dholpur stone clad seating and a kadappa stone stage. The rehearsal space is a kadappa stone hall and the outdoor cafe has a kota stone fixed seating. The earthen colour tones of the built form are to merge with the dusty Ahmedabad and the neem trees of the site. The soul idea of the project is to inspirit the artists and art.

The school of thought is to have cross exchange of skills, to create a whole ensemble of things where it becomes a statement (creative process or performance itself), not just talent in isolation, but join them to make huge entities. Basera looks forward to welcoming artists and house them to create… in their own space of consciousness, time and ideologies.
