Through renowned silkscreen prints of Marilyn Monroe, Campbell’s Soup Cans, and other mass-media icons from the 1960s, Andy Warhol, a leading artist in the Pop Art movement, embraced popular culture. He was born in Pittsburgh in 1928, and after studying commercial illustration in New York, he founded “The Factory” as a creative hub in 1964. Perhaps, his work occasionally made references towards his own sexuality, especially in male nudist drawings and the movie “Sleep.” He worked with younger artists throughout the 1980s. After Warhol’s death in 1987, The Andy Warhol Foundation was created.
