The Italian artist Piero Dorazio, had a lasting impression on the art world with his many experiments in colour field painting, lyrical abstraction, and abstract art. His life was punctuated by numerous notable episodes, from his WWII runaway to Abruzzo through his architectural education at the University of Rome. He got a government grant from France in 1947 and co-founded the Forma I collective, a centre for socialist abstract art, Later on, in Paris he made friends with artists like Braque and Matisse. His work gained international attention, particularly in the 1979 Paris retrospective and the 1980 Albright-Knox travelling exhibition, cementing his lasting influence on the art world. Dorazio made his New York debut in 1953, opening doors to contacts with Rothko and Motherwell.
