The GOI Inviting Submissions for India Art Architecture Design Biennale 2023.

Recently, The Ministry of Culture posted on their social media an open call for submissions of artworks, models and for Art curators across the country. The submissions are being conducted for the upcoming India Art Architecture Design Biennale 2023, which would serve as a precursor to the upcoming Venice Biennale 2024. Read on to learn more about this announcement.

1. Submissions and Artworks/Models

For the first part of the announcement, the Ministry of Culture is inviting submissions for the Student Biennale. The Submissions include Doors and Gates, Gardens and Rock Art, Baolis and Stepwells, Temples, Indigenous Designs, and Architecture. 

Deadline: 30th September, 2023, 5 p.m. IST.

2. Open Call for Curators

The GOI issued an announcement for Art curators around India For the Venice Biennale 2024 theme, Foreigners Everywhere. The proposals would demand the applicants to share a bio, portfolio and concept note. 

Deadline: 1st October, 2023. 8 p.m. IST

3. Call For Submissions

Next is the call for Submissions for the 2023 India Art Architecture Design Biennale. This Biennale will also be a precursor to the Venice Biennale and other international Biennales and design weeks that are to be announced.

Deadline: 1st October, 2023. 8 p.m. IST.

4. Invitation for Submissions and Artworks

The theme of the submission is “Foreigners Everywhere” which is also the theme for the Venice Biennale 2024. The category of the artworks can be paintings, sculptures, installations, photography, textiles, ceramics and other miscellaneous categories. This would include Doors and Gates, Gardens and Rock Art, Baolis and Stepwells, Temples, Indigenous Designs, and Architecture.

About the Venice Biennale 2024

The theme for Biennale Arte 2024 was released on June 22, 2023, by Adriano Pedrosa, curator of the 60th International Art Exhibition, and Roberto Cicutto, president of La Biennale di Venezia. The theme is “Foreigners Everywhere.” The artists featured at this future event will comprise immigrants, expatriates, diasporic people, émigrés, exiles, and refugees, with a focus on those who crossed the borders between the Global South and Global North. La Biennale, known for its wide range of international participation, has frequently given foreign artists around the world a forum. The 60th International Art Exhibition will celebrate the foreign, the distant, the outsider, the queer, and the indigenous, extending a warm invitation to all to join in Venice in 2024.
