Remembering Nandalal Bose
Credited with designing the original manuscript of the Indian Constitution and emblems of India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna, as well as the Padma Shri, Nandalal Bose was a pioneer of modern art in India. He died on April 16, 1966, and is sometimes credited as the man behind the creation of a new age art movement in India. Anish Kapoor, the whitest white paint is here
Researchers at Purdue University say they have created the whitest paint on record. In fact, they’ve now crafted an ultra-white paint twice: In October, they announced a white paint that was capable of reflecting 95.5 percent of sunlight. But they have outdone themselves with a new formulation that reflects up to 98.1 percent of sunlight, announced on April 15. Now given the entire tumult that had emerged over Vantablack, Anish Kapoor and Stuart Semple, one wonders what will happen this time around! The Verge has a snapshot.
600 drones and van Gogh’s Starry Night
Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh has made its home on thousands of surfaces as posters, coffee mugs, t-shirts, throw pillows, and more. But in a rendition that recently took place in China, his painting literally lit up the sky in China as hundreds of drones took flight to replicate the iconic artist’s most famed works. Drone production company EFYI Group partnered with Tianjin University in China to “paint” the sky with some of Van Gogh’s most beloved and world-revered paintings in an animated light show called A Tribute to Van Gogh. My Modern Met has the details.
‘Da Vinci’ gets a review
Leonardo, the latest offering from Amazon Prime, centres on Aidan “Poldark” Turner playing famed Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci. The show is depicted as taking place at ‘Maestro Verrocchio’s School of Renaissance Painting ‘n’ That’, and involves a love story with the “lowborn” Caterina da Cremona, who becomes a beloved muse — but the series is framed by Leonardo’s arrest and languishment in prison for her murder. But apparently, it’s “terrible” and “cringe-inducing”, writes The Guardian.
