Vayeda Brothers’ New Solo At Ojas Art
Mayur and Tushar Vayeda, popularly known as the Vayeda Brothers are bringing their Warli creations to Ojas Art with their newest solo show, Sacred Lines. The show opens on January 19th and will be on view till March 23.
Their current solo has nearly twenty works on display in various mediums including cloth. A highlight is a mural measuring more than 20 feet, a feat which was achieved on site.
What Do Sacred Lines Connote?
In all their captivating Warli artworks, the Vayeda Brothers fuse their perceptions of the modern world with their tribe’s unique visual language. Perhaps the most versatile artists of the Warli art tradition, the Vayedas use their inherited forms in very current and expressive ways, while experimenting with innovative subjects, new ideas, and immersive storytelling.
Three Sections in Ojas Art’s Exhibition
Sacred Line delves into the unexplored myths, stories, and knowledge systems of the Warli Indigenous tribe, presented through three distinct sections: Origin, Original, and Experimentation.
The “Origin” section brings forth traditional motifs and forms, shedding light on the deep-rooted myths and ancient stories that have shaped the Warli culture. In “Original,” the Vayeda Brothers explore the potential of Warli art as a language to express the mysteries of the tribe’s worldview. “Experimentation” challenges the boundaries of this age-old art form by fusing traditional practices with modern techniques. This section explores new possibilities for Warli, reinterpreting it in ways that bring its ancient knowledge systems into dialogue with today’s world.

Mayur and Tushar Vayeda note, “The exhibition aims to celebrate the timeless essence of Warli art while charting new pathways for its future, ensuring that the unexplored stories and wisdom of the Warli tribe continue to resonate for generations to come.”
Ravi Agarwal on Mayur and Tushar Vayeda’s Solo
Artist and curator Ravi Agarwal, impressed by the show, adds, “The works in this exhibition are worlds of new imaginations. They are painstakingly made, retaining ancient forms, but depicting new realities. “Sacred Lines” for example could be an aerial view of an urban highway, or “Unending Spirit” alien markings on an earthy landscape. Each painting has its own story, but also holds many narratives, all at once.”
Anubhav Nath on Sacred Lines
Anubhav Nath, Director of Ojas Art, said, “We are excited to host Mayur & Tushar Vayeda’s first solo show in Delhi at the same time as their ongoing solo show, Bija at the Spore Initiative in Berlin, which gets over in February. The Vayedas with their unique interpretation of Warli art already have a strong international presence.”
Nikhil Purohit on Vayeda Brother’s Exhibition
Artist and researcher, Nikhil Purohit observes, “Museums across the world have been keen on collecting material of anthropological significance. Since the introduction of Jivya to the West and the famous collaborative art project with Richard Long, Warli canvases are an acclaimed collectable today. It is noteworthy that the Vayeda’s contemporary interpretations are part of some respectable collections viz. The Art Institute of Chicago, Philadelphia Museum of Art, and Queensland Art Gallery of Modern Art.”
