Veer Munshi, born in Srinagar, Kashmir, studied fine arts at M.S. University Baroda and has lived in Delhi/Gurgaon since 1990. Over a three-decade artistic career, his work has consistently centered on the theme of exile, using art to express his anguish over the situation in his home state. His work reflects the pain and struggle of separation from his heritage, making a human rights statement rather than a political one. Munshi believes in the universal power of art to play a significant role in resolving the Kashmir conflict. With 17 solo shows in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Perth, Edinburgh, and at the United Nations in Geneva, Munshi’s diverse mediums include installations, videos, paintings, and photographs. He has participated in major events like the Kochi Muziris Biennale (2018), Dhaka Art Summit (2018), and Serendipity Art Festival (2017), and has received numerous honors, including the National Award and a senior fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. His works are part of collections in India and abroad, including the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, the Smart Museum of Art in Chicago, and the Indo-Australian Institute Museum in Melbourne.
