Sketch Cartoon Drawings

Cartoon characters have a timeless charm that transcends generations. Whether you’re an adult or a child, cartoon sketch drawings are an excellent way to destress in the sanctity of your home. Whether it is Pokemon or Tom and Jerry, cartoons make you chuckle out loud. If you are a budding artist and looking for inspiration why not turn the clock back to your childhood (or not, if you are really into OTT’s adult animated shows) and pencil sketch cartoon drawings? Here’s a curated list to spark your creativity and hone your drawing skills.

1. Old-Timey Classics

Millennials might relate hard to old-timey cartoon characters such as Tom and Jerry, Thomas the Train, Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Snoopy. If you decide to draw these pencil sketch cartoon drawings, you must capture their nuances. Tom and Jerry depict the eternal cat-and-mouse rivalry that has entertained audiences for decades with its slapstick humour and clever antics. Thomas the Train is a beloved steam engine that spews valuable life lessons. Snoopy, one of the most iconic dogs from the classic ‘Peanuts’ is Charlie Brown’s imaginative beagle. You can go the extra mile and depict a Christmas Snoopy clad in festive clothes and snow all around.

2. Crazy Cats

In this house, we stan cats. In Egyptian mythology cats were the harbinger of good fortune; a conduit of Goddess Bast. You can sketch drawing cartoon Bastet herself or you can try drawing Felix the Cat. Felix the Cat is a mischievous and resourceful cartoon cat, born during the silent film era. He is particularly known for his magic bag of tricks. On the other hand, Pete the Cat is a laid-back groovy feline who is known for his positive attitude and cool demeanour.

3. Film’s Fan Favourite

Growing up we’ve all watched films. Whether it is the ever-extending Shinchan films or the Barbie series, we’ve fallen in love with both the 2D, and 3D animations. So why not find cartoon drawing pencil sketches of those who have also appeared in movies (and some on the red carpet)? Try drawing Shrek, the lovable ogre who lives in the land of Duloc. Another supporting character who’s mesmerised the audiences is Dog Man; a part-dog, part-human hero from Dav Pilkey’s graphic novels. Another superstar on the rise is Bob the Minion, who loves bananas and speaks in gibberish. Bob the Minion from the ‘Despicable Me’ franchise is known for his loyalty.

4. Video Vixens

Some cartoon characters to draw have jumped at us straight from the video game. Whether it is 1987 Contra’s cyborg Frey or the 2017 retro-style video game character Cuphead, the characters are sure to allure. If you do decide to sketch drawings of cartoons AKA the simple design of Cuphead, you must draw him with a penchant for mischief and challenging adventures.

5. Superpowered Beings

At the moment, the world is obsessed with film universes, especially superheroes. Out of them DCU and MCU stand out. Based on comic books, there are infinite characters to choose from. A cartoon sketch drawing of Captain America would be incomplete without his shield, patriotism, and an unwavering sense of justice. Wonder Woman on the other hand is a tall Amazonian warrior princess who embodies strength, compassion, and empowerment. You may draw Wonder Woman in action with her lasso of truth. Captain Marvel or Carol Danvers is yet another superheroine who is known for her flight and fight response, thanks to her cosmic powers. Villains exude the same charm as heroes, so don’t miss out on sketch cartoon drawings of icons like Catwoman. Catwoman is the complex antiheroine from DC Comics, known for her agility, wit, and affinity for cats (not Pete or Felix the Cat).

6. Bonjour France

If you’ve been brushing up on French by watching French animated cartoons, you’ve got a treasure trove to choose from. Our advice is to sketch drawings of cartoons like ‘Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir’. Miraculous Ladybug is a young Parisian superheroine with a magical yo-yo who saves the day (every day)! Joining her in her adventures is her partner Cat Noir who is known for his suave demeanor and feline abilities. Rena Rouge from Miraculous, the alias of Alya Cesaire is yet another agile and clever superhero.

7. Disney’s Magical World

People experience the magic of Disney in their unique ways. Some go to the Art of Animation Resort, while some make cartoon drawing pencil sketches. The pantless Donald Duck will forever be one of the best. Donald Duck is a temperamental duck known for his distinctive voice and comedic misadventures. Mickey Mouse’s girlfriend, Minnie Mouse is a sweetheart who frequently dons a polka-dot bow. Another character Goofy, as the name describes is the good-natured and clumsy character known for his distinctive laugh and optimistic outlook.

8. Looney Toons

Looney Toons is another Disney branch which has captivated global audiences. We all remember Tweety and Tasmanian Devil Taz, but none blew up more than Bugs Bunny. Bugs Bunny is a quick-witted rabbit who loves his carrots. But more than carrots, he loves outsmarting his foes. Daffy Duck on the other hand is the zany and self-absorbed duck who’s often throwing hands with Bugs Bunny. So let’s make these pencil sketch cartoon drawings.

9. The Poohniverse

The ‘Twisted Childhood Franchise’ is responsible for the audience’s resurging interest in the cherished character – Winnie the Pooh. Winnie the Pooh is a honey-loving bear from the ‘Hundred Acre Wood’ known for his wisdom and kindness. He is often seen wearing only a red shirt. Winnie the Pooh’s timid yet loyal friend, Piglet is another fan favourite. He is known for his petite figure and big heart. Next on the cartoon drawing pencil sketch list is Eeyore, the melancholic but kind-hearted donkey characterised by his gloomy outlook.

10. Parent of the Year

We might’ve aged, but our love for sketch drawings of cartoons hasn’t. However, the themes are now far more serious and far more adult than ever before. Hence, if adults were to showcase their creativity, it would look something like Homer Simpson; the bumbling yet lovable patriarch of the Simpson family, who can’t get enough of doughnuts (D’oh). Joining Homer Simpon is his wife, the patient and nurturing mother, known for her towering blue hair – Marge Simpson. You may even draw Rick from Rick and Morty along with his universal variants or the overweight and slightly dim-witted Peter Griffin from Family Guy.

11. Mischievous Children

Childhood is the time when children experiment and have fun. It is expected of them to be naughty. Several pencil sketch cartoon drawings fall under his category. For example, the oblong-headed Stewie Griffin from Family Guy. The diabolically clever Stewie Griffin has a British accent in an otherwise American family. Some say that he might be homosexual. You can also draw the Simpson siblings — Bart and Lisa Simpson. Bart Simpson is often seen honing his skateboarding skills while the saxophone player Lisa Simpson is intelligent and socially conscious.

12. Yeehaw Cowboys

Cowboys aren’t just a staple in Western spaghetti, but also in cartoon drawing pencil sketches. One of our favourite cowboys is Lucky Luke from the eponymous series. He is best known for his lightning-fast draw.  Additionally, you may also choose to draw the Daltons from Lucky Luke; the bumbling and comical outlaws who try escaping prison, but in vain.

13. Nickelodeon Magic

Nickelodeon was yet another channel which had us glued to our television sets. With programming such as Winx Club, SpongeBob, and Jimmy Neutron, it transfixed us. Hence, it only seems just to pay homage to our childhood. You may draw Squidward from SpongeBob SquarePants; the character’s grouch clarinet-loving player who also happened to be the cashier (and colleague) at the ‘Krusty Krab.’ Another character is the dim-witted pink Patrick Star. Patrick Star loves ice creams and fish hooks. Draw Jimmy Neutron, the boy genius known for his inventions. Another popular choice is Stitch from Lilo and Stitch; the alien experiment who’s bonded with Lilo and has a distinct voice. You may even sketch Motu Patlu cartoon drawing, playing with the cartoon character’s sizes.
