Mario Schifano, an accomplished Italian artist who lived from 1934 to 1998, excelled in painting, collage, film, and music. He moved from Libya to Rome after World War II and first embraced Art Informel in the 1950s with thick impasto. From 1959 to 1961, he produced paintings on canvas that resembled French Nouveau Réalisme by utilising simply one or two colours on wrapping paper. He was influenced by American Pop artists like Jim Dine and Franz Kline in 1962 and began incorporating elements of advertising into his artwork. Schifano made forays into screenprinting, music, and film in the latter half of the 1960s while frequently returning to his earlier works. In 1998, he passed away in Rome.
