Mithu Sen, born in West Bengal in 1971, studied at Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University in Shantiniketan, and has emerged as one of India’s most avant-garde contemporary artists. Over a career spanning more than two decades, her work has consistently challenged societal norms, using art to reclaim her identity within the linguistic, historical, cultural, and sexual contours of society. Sen’s work, which includes installations, performances, drawings, and poetry, evokes a spectrum of emotions, from visual delight to discomfort, making profound statements about the human condition.
