Making ‘Room for More Art’ is all about a personal connection, says Dhyey Chag

Dhyey Chag: ‘Art is not random, it is the soul of a space’

\"\"Continuously charting an odyssey of learning and implementing that imbibed instinct on the go — that is an ethos on which architect-designer Dhyey Chag functions. Having founded his eponymous studio, Dhyey Chag Architects, based out of both Ahmedabad and Jamnagar in Gujarat, Dhyey has since 2019 been working on simple yet thoughtful designs that carry innovations in their details. Essentially, design for the company translates as the ‘outcome of a strong concept, good detailing and proficient workmanship, along with proper on site execution as a team’ — all while maintaining one’s own distinctive language of design. While he is an alumnus of the School of Environmental Design and Architecture (SEDA) in Baroda, Dhyey is also an acolyte of noted architect Hiren Patel, and is further engaged in a Masters in interior design at CEPT University. He believes in clean, elegant work and likes to design spaces minimally, whether indoors, outdoors, for personal or commercial use. His uplifting use of light emanates a vibe of Zen, and creates peaceful, uncluttered, soothing milieus. There is also a modern element of utility, coupled with a strong emphasis on reconnecting with natural elements in a lot of his work. Dhyey strongly feels that art is not just a means of decoration but an experience and a constant that forms the soul of any space — for him, it is also a deeply personal and meaningful addition based on the user of the place. Another tenet he subscribes to is that art is not random, and its placement and inclusion can be curated with effort, understanding, enthusiasm and the right energy.
