Rakhee Roy Explores the Intersection of Environmental Calamity and Feminine Resilience Through Her Art

With more than 20 years of painting expertise, Rakhee Roy has always found inspiration in nature. Her 2010 solo debut exhibition, “Quest of Green,” was the start of a journey that skilfully combined art and environment. She has always been enthralled with nature’s complex beauty, which she uses as a language to communicate her creativity. Her passion for painting signifies environmental catastrophes in particular, which reflects her profound care for the environment.

Women play a central role in Rakhee’s artwork. To her, women embody the essence of nature—strong, resilient, and innately capable of healing. Her paintings often depict women striving to transcend the confines of politics and gender. Through her art, she highlights women as the guardians of culture and tradition, emphasising their crucial  role in society. Rakhee is acutely aware of the pressures and societal rules that trap women in their bodies, instilling fear and limiting their potential which is characterised by its simplicity and beauty, drawing from her immediate surroundings. She weaves elements of fantasy and humour into her work, creating a unique blend that encapsulates and inspires. Her paintings are not just visual representations but also narratives that invite viewers to explore deeper themes of resilience, beauty, and cultural preservation.
